The task's main goal is to improve the process of decision making and to promote the sharing of ideas amongst the students, by solving a problem related to energy losses at school and how to render it more energetically efficient.

Students will have to study life and science issues related to Portuguese sea travelling era, on the 16th century. Furthermore, they will have to study issues related to food preservation methods used in that era and used nowadays.
How do scientists work?
This task’s main goal is to facilitate the construction of knowledge related to the nature of scientific knowledge. Students are expected to develop a conception of science as an enterprise, to face scientific ideas as transitory and subjective, which are influenced by the socio-cultural context. Finally, students are expected to face scientific ideas as based on the observation of the natural world, experimental evidence, rational arguments and scepticism.

This activity contributes to citizenship education through the promotion of thinking competencies and responsibility attitudes concerning society.
