University of Ioannina / Greece
The University of Ioannina founded in 1964 is on one of the largest campuses in Greece. Although there are 7 schools, the departments within the schools constitute the basic autonomous academic units, each offering undergraduate and graduate programmes and each having its own library. The department of chemistry founded, in 1977, is sub-divided into 4 sections, comprising inorganic and analytical; organic and biochemistry; physical; and industrial and food chemistry; with 56 staff and 550 students plus 250 researchers studying for higher degrees.
Dr Georgios Tsaparlis is an associate professor in the physical chemistry section of the department of chemistry. He has strong interests in science education and especially in problem solving, higher order cognitive skills and teaching methodology. He is an experienced chemical educator and is currently the editor of CERAPIE an online refereed chemical education journal providing researchers and practitioners an alternative academic means to publish within Europe. He has a number of articles in refereed journals.
